Chapter 130.7 The LC at Play

AN: All of these stories are running simultaneously. Unbeta’d.

Les’s POV—Day Two of the review

Lacing my bros meals with laxatives yesterday was child’s play. Literally. Now it’s time to make them pay but I decide to pull in the queen of payback herself for the biggest target.

“Hey, Steph.” I smile, hoping to relax her, but she tenses up. “I could use your help.”

“With?” The tone is both guarded and aggressive. Sigh.

“A little payback.”

“For who?”

“Well, I was hung out of my window naked. Seems only right I get them back.” Continue reading

Chapter 130.5 Knowledge Drop

Bobby’s POV—Day 1

I leave Tank in the gym, contemplating the size of our organization, and follow Lucia to her office. Day one of the review is going well and I’m looking, searching, for something to ding NYC on. I haven’t found anything yet. Everything I see says that Les made the right decision leaving Javi in place each time.

This branch has rebounded.

Lucia unlocks her office and I follow her in and take a seat at the small table she crammed into her prep room. I see how Lucia is working on the office paperless initiative. Her office is unremarkable, a place clearly used to process receipts and paperwork. Her fax machine is overflowing with solicitations and her printer contains coupons to clip, but the scanner is whirring sheets of paper through at a fast clip. Otherwise, there’s nothing personal in this office, nothing that says Lucia! Continue reading

I Learned My Lesson

Friday after Thanksgiving

Les‘s POV

I’m staring at my computer screen, trying to make sense of what I’m reading, when Bobby walks in.

“Turn it off.” I look at him. He looks amused. “You’ve been staring at the screen for ten minutes. You aren’t reading. You’re brooding.” He hops on the other end of my bed and stares at me. “Talk, bro.”

I stare out of the window to the bleak Trenton skyline. It’s nearly midnight and the stars can barely be seen. I’ve been thinking about this problem for the past two hours and I’m no closer to a resolution. Bobby walked in at the right moment.

“How goes the paperwork?”

“Ric’s an ass,” he mutters, flexing his fingers. I smirk; nice payback, primo. “I’m nearly finished. I’d like to hand him the stack before he leaves for Miami.”

“Good luck.” Continue reading

Chapter 116: Brown has lost his fucking mind

Bobby‘s POV

Occasionally, I have a really good, and really scary, thought.

I had one last night. It was so good I got out of bed to do some research. After two hours of searching, one hour of plotting, and ten minutes thinking of a co-conspirator, I’m ready.

“Candace?”

I move swiftly to catch her cup of coffee. Hal appears and I wave him off.

She smiles. “Sir. Sorry. Good morning.”

Extra glow. Good job, Hal.

“I need your help.” I wait until she opens her office and gets comfortable. I’m in no hurry and I tell her to take her time. Once she’s ready, I detail the plan to her and sit back. She’s smiling.

“You guys really like to meddle in other people’s lives, don’t you?”

I shrug. “No. But will we help our brother when we see he needs it? Yes.” Continue reading

We Fall Down but We Get Up

A/N: UnBeta’d. Sorry it’s late. I kept fiddling!
Bug: Correctional Officer

Thomas’s POV

Man in front of me is in his late 20s, maybe early 30s. Cool. He’s been reading my application for the past ten minutes and he hasn’t said shit yet.

Piman told me I’d be tested. Wish I’d asked more questions about the test.

He finally looks up. Cold dark brown eyes, ponytail, strong nose. Looks like Piman’s cousin, the darker version. Expensive ass suit. Gotta be Cuban. Shit. I hate Cubans. Only one I like is Piman. Oh, and Danilo. They’re cool. I wonder if this is another entitled little shit.

He leans back in his chair and stares at me. “Why?”

What the fuck? “Why?”

He taps my application. “What can I get from you that I can’t get from another applicant?”

Skills, fucker. I got ’em. Can I say that? Continue reading

Promise

A/N: Prompt from EEG and CTBabe1202. Thanks!

Manolo Peña’s POV

I step back in line and watch Hector Gutierrez leave the gym.

Wow.

Just wow.

He told me that when he arrived in San Antonio he wouldn’t speak or acknowledge me, but . . .

I want to blush. He’s gorgeous. Well built, intimidating, no nonsense. Sexy as hell.

Great ass.

I shake my head mentally and stand at attention. I see his partner, Stephanie, up at the front. She was a sweetie. I see her grandmother in her. Even though we both knew we couldn’t speak to each other, her eyes said, So you’re Manolo, huh? Hiiiiii!

I learned how to control the blushing in the Navy. Thank god. I might’ve been pitched overboard if I had not.

Hector was putting my abilities to the test. Continue reading

Chapter 105: I Meet Her Friends

Saturday

Chenae’s POV

Lula and I wake up bright and early (or somewhere around 9 AM) and go for a run. She’s determined to get her stomach flat for that wedding dress. I’ve gained a little weight and now that I’m going to be in the wedding, I need to trim down a bit.

I’m going to be in my brother’s wedding! I had to praise HIM and give thanks for my blessings. The one thing I assumed my attitude had completely ruined was given back to me. I have my brother’s love and respect again. Continue reading

Chapter 102: We Come to One Accord

Tank’s POV

Lula’s quiet. That’s always nerve-racking.

“Tankie?”

“Hmm?”

“You wouldn’t lie to me, would you?”

Depends on what I have to lie about, but yeah, I’d lie to you in a heartbeat. Or, more correctly, I’d redirect you. “What do you want to know, Lula Bear?”

“Steph had beard burn all over her face.”

“I noticed.”

She’s quiet. “I know what I want to think but I need to know if I’m right.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t wanna be wrong.” Continue reading

I Kissed a LOT of Frogs

One Shot Prompt from Lyllyn, trish94509 and jillianpappan. Thanks!

“Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment.”

Juana’s POV

“So, what do you do?”

Besides sit with losers like you trying to find something in common? “I’m a cop.”

His eyes widen. “Really?” He laughs nervously. “FBI or something?”

“Yeah.”

The smile drops. “Really?”

I flash the badge. “Really.” I chew another forkful of the excellent steak he’s paying for. No need to waste food.

This is another failed date but he’s decent in bed. He’ll go on the reserve list. Continue reading

Chapter 90: We Deliver a Sheet Set

Helen’s POV

Stephanie is coming to dinner tonight for the first time in months. I realize I haven’t seen my daughter since Tank and Robert were here to confirm she was trained to their standards. I’m actually looking forward to seeing her. Mother says that Stephanie has been quieter and more thoughtful lately.

I’m thrilled she hasn’t been hurt in months.

Knowing that she’s now trained for this job and prepared for the danger that follows her around everywhere has made my life much easier the past few months. I can walk around the Burg knowing that she’s safe and that Hector or Henry is with her. They’ll protect her but if they can’t, if something happens, Stephanie can also protect herself until help arrives. I’m proud of that. My daughter is trained for her (horribly ridiculously dangerous) job. Continue reading
